Byrne Welcomes A5 Go-Ahead

SDLP West Tyrone MLA Joe Byrne has welcomed that dates have been set for the beginning of work on the A5 road upgrade.

Mr Byrne said that the infrastructural improvement would be a huge boost to the economic prosperity of the North-West.

Speaking from the Silverbirch section of the road, Mr Byrne said: "This is a good day for the North-West and once complete, this new road will massively boost our economic prospects.

"Having spent 25 years campaigning for this infrastructural improvement, I am delighted that it has finally been given the green light.

"This will come as welcome news to our struggling construction industry as this project is expected to create up to 800 jobs in this sector.

"I would like to pay tribute to the Roads Service design team who have ensured that all statutory requirements have been met to make this plan a reality and credit must also go to the Roads Minister Danny Kennedy for remaining calm and steadfast in his commitment to this road upgrade."
